Introitus

Veni, veni, Emanuel

Joel Raney: Christmas is coming

Christmas is coming, let the churchbells ring!

People celebratin' the birth of a King.

Shoutin' Hosanna 'til the heavens ring.

Christmas is comin', let the churchbells ring!

Glory filled the heavens. Music filled the night.

Shepherds heard the angels sing. Wise men saw the light.

O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel,

that mourns in lonely exile here, until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!

Lukas Grimm: Es kommt ein Schiff...

1. Es kommt ein Schiff, geladen

bis an sein’ höchsten Bord,

trägt Gottes Sohn voll Gnaden,

des Vaters ewigs Wort.

2. Das Schiff geht still im Triebe,

es trägt ein teure Last;

das Segel ist die Liebe,

der Heilig Geist der Mast.

3. Der Anker haft’ auf Erden,

da ist das Schiff am Land.

Das Wort will Fleisch uns werden,

der Sohn ist uns gesandt.

4. Zu Bethlehem geboren

im Stall ein Kindelein,

gibt sich für uns verloren;

gelobet muß es sein.

5. Und wer dies Kind mit Freuden

umfangen, küssen will,

muß vorher mit ihm leiden

groß Pein und Marter viel,

6. danach mit ihm auch sterben

und geistlich auferstehn,

das ewig Leben erben,

wie an ihm ist geschehn.

Brian Lewis: Follow that star

Follow that star to Bethlehem. Follow. Follow.

See the Wise Men trav'lin' far, they were told to follow that star.

Bright star shining, filling the night. Following that guiding light.

Oh, star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright,

westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.

Joel Snyder & Jane Kozhevnikova: Christmas is the loneliest time without you

It's been called the most wonderful time of the year

It's been called the fairest season of all.

But darling I know: without you this world is cold.

Christmas is the loneliest time without you.

Christmas is the chilliest time of the year,

Christmas is the barest season of all.

And darling, I know: without you this world is cold.

Christmas is the loneliest time without you.

Without you I'm lonely, without you I'm cold,

Without you I'm only deserted and lost in the snow.

Christmas is the chilliest time of the year,

Christmas is the barest season of all.

And darling, I know: without you this world is cold.

Christmas is the loneliest time without you.

Jason A. Heald: Christmas in the Rain

The tree is trimmed. The pies are baked. The swag's hung from the door.

See ornaments and condiments and shoppingbags galore.

But outside, it's December without a snowflake to be seen.

Another winter holiday where everything is wet and green.

Christmas in the rain. It's always Christmas in the rain.

No snowmen to build. No icicles chilled. No carolers singing refrains.

Snow's falling on the mountain tops. Snow's falling on the inland plain,

and the sun's shining in San Diego.

But the weatherman here made it perfectly clear we'll have

Christmas in the rain. Another Christmas in the rain.

So we'll close the door when it starts to pour.

There's little else left for us to do. But to stay warm and dry,

cuddled up insinde, and I'll have the merriest Christmas with you.

Anders Edenroth: The World for Christmas

It's the night before Christmas and all through the house

Not a creature is stirring, not even a mouse

The stockings are hung by the chimney with care

But hopes for Saint Nicholas I wish I could share

I am new to this world, I arrived here this morn'

To this beautiful planet, though beat up and torn

I don't need a gift, need no more than I've got

Hear the unspoken wish from a tiny, tiny tot

I only want the world for Christmas

The blue green for ever turning world for Chistmas

Nothing more nothing less

I want it for keeps and I promise to share

So that everyone who wants can cuddle and care

I only want the world for chistmas

The blue green for ever turning world for christmas

To restore to repossess

Please make it last, my fate is in your hands

Oh give me a present for the future

You could follow your heart, but you follow a whim

And fill up your stockings way over the brim

Ignoring the signs in your frail crystal ball

You wish away, wish away, wish away all

The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow

Gives a luster of midday to objects below

Why your eyes won't see

When they're given all this light

I wonder, I wonder this very special night

I only want the world for Chistmas

The blue green for ever turning world for Chistmas

To restore to repossess

Please make it last, my fate is in your hands

Oh give me, oh give me

Oh give me, oh give me

Oh give me a present for the future

Lukas Grimm: Veni, veni, veni, veni, ... Emmanuel!

Veni, veni, veni, veni, veni, veni Emmanuel!

Captivum solve Israel!

Qui gemit in exilio,

Privatus Dei Filio,

Gaude, gaude, gaude!

Ex hostis tuos ungula,

De specu tuos tartari

Educ, et antro barathri.

Gaude, gaude, gaude!

Veni, veni, veni, veni, veni, veni Emmanuel!

Solare nos adveniens,

Noctis depelle nebulas,

Dirasque mortis tenebras.

Gaude, gaude, gaude!

Regna reclude coelica,

Fac iter tutum superum,

Et claude vias inferum.

Gaude, gaude, gaude!

Veni, veni, veni, veni, veni, veni O Adonai!

Qui populo in Sinai

Legem dedisti vertice,

In maiestate gloriae.

Gaude, gaude, Emmanuel!

Veni, veni, veni, veni, veni, veni Emmanuel!

Thad Jones/arr. Alison Crockett: A Child is born

Now

Out of the night

Soft as the dawn

Into the light

This child

Innocent child

Soft as a fawn

This child is born

One small heart

One pair of eyes

One work of art

Here in my arms

Here he lies

Trusting and warm

Blessed this morn

A child is born

One small heart

One pair of eyes

One work of art

Here in my arms

Here he lies

Trusting and warm

Blessed this morn

A child is born

Michael Engelhardt: Go Tell It On the Mountain

Go, tell it on the mountain,

over the hills and ev’rywhere;

go, tell it on the mountain,

that Jesus Christ is born.

While shepherds kept their watching

over silent flocks by night,

behold throughout the heavens

there shone a holy light.

Go, tell it on the mountain ...

The shepherds feared and trembled,

when lo! Above the earth,

rang out the angels’ chorus

that hailed the Saviour’s birth.

Go, tell it on the mountain ...
